Penny For Your Thoughts? by Adelaide Lukin

This is a portrait of my best friend Penny. The warm colour scheme being a symbol of Penny’s energy and flamboyance. I chose this mirror composition because I wanted to depict how, on the cusp of adulthood, she is trapped between two worlds. 

Like a modern narcissus, Penny contemplates herself. She has thus far lived in the safe realm of school and home, but now that she is turning 18 she feels as though she has to say goodbye to the safety of the known and enter the uncertain adult world. Penny will become the future of Brisbane and help define the culture that tomorrows school children will see ahead of them.
