About the artwork
In this photograph taken backstage at a Brisbane venue, seasoned roadie and stage manager Damien Hutchinson sits poised for the post-concert bump-out. In this dimly lit setting, his posture and expression is worn but composed while he waits for the crowd’s cheers to fade and the gritty work of dismantling a show to begin.
“It wasn’t a dramatic scene, but a fleeting glimpse of pride, fatigue and unwavering commitment – a moment that captured the heart of the roadie’s world, where the real work often begins after the final applause.”
The image pays tribute to the unsung heroes of the live music industry and the unglamorous work that happens behind the scenes to make the magic on stage possible.
“What drew me to Damien was his quiet authority and the sense of purpose he carries, even in stillness. Through this work, I hope to convey the strength, dedication and professionalism of someone whose vital role is rarely seen, yet essential to every successful performance.”
