The Stepdaughter by Glenn Hunt

The Stepdaughter

Glenn Hunt

About the artwork

In this portrait, Glenn Hunt captures his stepdaughter, Katerina Gibson, in a quiet moment of solitude. Gibson is the author of two acclaimed, award-winning books, The Temperature and Women I Know. Hunt wanted to pay tribute to the young woman who holds a special place in his heart.

“This is a portrait of my stepdaughter, though that term never felt right to either of us. It took 15 years to get her in front of a camera. I met her at 15, when she visited with her mum and took my dogs for a walk. She got lost, but the dogs led her home. In some ways, she stayed lost a while, finding herself. Now she’s a writer with a voice all her own… After a recent cancer diagnosis, she flew up to check on me. I wanted to mark the moment with a portrait, to honour her, and the remarkable woman she has become.”
