Red Sunlight by Phoebe Julien

Sunlight, the basis for all living things. ‘Red Sunlight’ comes to terms with Brisbane’s inner light. This portrait was created using an assortment of oil paints and brushes. These colours symbolise the sun rays hitting the beautiful jacaranda trees, reflecting the highlights of the city Brisbane. The aim for this portrait is to show the beauty of the sunlight’s warmth. The muse of my painting is exactly this, sunlight’s reflection, with his red hair shining against the yellow giving a range of hues. This painting is especially personal with the sitter being my brother, this portrait entirely captures my view of him. His reflection shows him being a small child of 6 with a bubbly, warm personality, shown through the arrangement of colours, specifically in the shadows, containing almost the entire rainbow.
