Fairy Tale by Lilah McMahon

My name is Lilah McMahon, I’m 15 years old and drawing is a part of me. I chose my Mum as my subject because she has spent her working life as a teacher, impacting little lives in Brisbane. I called this artwork Fairy Tale because a student this year told her parents that my Mum is one of the kindest people she knows and that she is like a character from a fairy tale. This struck me because sometimes I forget my mum is a significant figure in other children’s lives, not just mine. I’m really proud of her. In the drawing I decided to incorporate a complex background involving lots of lines to bring together the composition. I enjoy this process of exploring texture to enhance the personality of my sitter.
