About the work
I’m SCAR, a 16-year-old Warramunga artist. For as long as I can remember, art has been my language and how I make sense of the world and of myself.
Two Faces is an abstract self-portrait exploring the contrast within my identity. On the left is a more recognisable version of me, structured, composed. On the right, painted in red and orange, is a chaotic figure: just as true, just as me, but harder to define. Both faces represent who I am. The background is a deep navy, creating a melancholy mood and drawing focus to the energy of the two figures. The painting is done on cardboard; something often overlooked, discarded, and considered disposable. By turning it into a canvas, it becomes something valuable. Just like emotions, which can feel messy or overwhelming, but are part of what makes us human.
This piece is about duality, the parts of ourselves that we show and the parts that remain unspoken. Without both, we are incomplete. This is why it’s called Two Faces.
