About the work
This is not only a portrait of me and my younger brother Archie, but a portrait of change.
The image captures a moment just before my first motorbike ride. I’m covered almost entirely in black gear, with only my red hair and eyes visible. Archie, on the other hand, is bright, unfiltered, and wearing his sunglasses upside down, a grin on his face, completely in the moment. The contrast between us reflects our personalities, but also the balance we bring to each other.
The background mimics an old Windows desktop overloaded with pop-up errors – a symbol of digital overload, and a subtle nod to the chaos of growing up in a tech-saturated world. It’s easy to feel nostalgic for the simplicity of the past, even as we find ourselves immersed in the speed and unpredictability of the future.
But at its core, this portrait is about connection: between siblings, and between people and technology. It’s a reminder that even in a digital world full of glitches, it’s our quirks, creativity, and relationships that keep things human.
