About the artwork

Carrie McCarthy is a Brisbane-based writer, curator and museum professional who regularly covers the arts scene in Brisbane and Australia under the moniker, Cultural Flanerie.

“Carrie has an irreverent sense of humour and is perhaps viewed as a bit of an extrovert. She’s often at art openings surrounded by people laughing at her stories. But there is another side to her, one that is quiet and nurturing and kind, and dedicated to helping artists navigate the uncertainty and pressures of a creative career. Like me, I have seen many of my peers benefit from her knowledge, time and genuine interest in seeing us succeed – and her constant advice not to take any of it too seriously!”

Brito’s tactile and psychologically astute study, presented from a unique bird’s-eye view, shows his close friend sitting nude in her heart-shaped bathtub with a glass of martini in hand, reflecting her playful wit and ability to disarm others.
