Bianca Redgrave by Maito Tanaka

The journey of the artist is often solitary – the hours upon hours spent thoughtfully manipulating light and colour require deep concentration, patience and tenacity. When one finally emerges from the studio, it’s the comfort and support of good friends that allow us to see our art through others’ eyes. One such friendship I treasure is with a fellow creative, Bianca. She is my school mate in Brisbane.

I chose to capture Bianca’s warmth and energy with the use of vibrant hints of colour; starting with vermilion to represent her glowing positivity. Her face is speckled with a kaleidoscope of colour to represent her hopes and dreams as she stares ahead into her future. Time spent with Bianca is like watching a prism gently spin in the light, revealing her admirable qualities and personality traits that draw in my artist’s eye and compel me to bring her likeness to life on canvas.
