About the work

Who are you?’ is a piece linked to a series of my personal artworks that explore the idea of losing pieces of oneself. My paintings from this series all incorporate the same mirror and are painted in gouache, watercolour, and my own blood (to some extent). I have always struggled profoundly with my identity. Each time I try to find myself, I end up becoming someone else. How long do you have to pretend to be someone you’re not until you become that someone or lose yourself entirely? Who am I? I have come to terms with the fact that I may never be my own person, but rather a collection of those I’ve met along the way. I’m grateful for the people I have found identity in, but I will always feel like there is a missing piece from the person I’m supposed to be.
