The Anxious Arrival by Sienna Gay

I remember sitting in the car outside of school; it’s my first day back after the extended school break. This feeling I’m depicting in this artwork was new and real. The first day of term used to be filled with excitement, but in post-Covid, post-flood Brisbane, I’m filled with a sense of impending doom. I can feel my heart beating out of my chest. The dark hues and lighting in my self-portrait reflect the apprehensive mood and fear of going back to school after the lockdowns; my anxiety is echoed in the reflection of the school in the car.
