Ways of Mapping Sunshine

Seabastion Toast

About the artwork and sitter

Seabastion Toast first met accomplished Brisbane violinist, Annabelle Swainston, while training for an ultra marathon trail event. The forest was the backdrop for long hours running, and interesting conversations on the crossovers between art, music and athletic performance.

Toast is interested in the ways the abstract qualities of light and form can be used to map a path for the viewer, slowing sections and speeding others to create a visual symphony. “This painting serves as a double portrait of our connection as my own form falls as a shadow across her upper body.

Annabelle Swainston works regularly with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and has a thriving studio of private students.

About the artist

Seabastion Toast has a BA in Fine Art from SCU and went on exchange to the Pratt Institute in New York. She works as an artist full time, and has won and been a finalist in numerous art prizes.
