The Flatmate by James Congdon

The Flatmate

James Congdon

About the artwork and sitter

James Congdon paints what is around him in a spontaneous and fresh way. His works are cluttered and busy, but have a visual coherence born of many hours in the studio.

This is a painting of his flatmate, Sarah. “Sarah came to live with me from Flatmates.com, a few years ago…we used to stay up drinking, and I’m not really into partying but she is and I accommodated her in that…we listened to all the old 70s and 80s music and raved about various singers.

..the place was very cluttered…she liked me because I was an artist, but I wasn’t her type…lol..”

When the painting was almost finished, James added himself, reflected in the mirror.

About the artist

James Congdon lives and works part time in Redcliffe, and has painted his whole life. “I’m also into music, and of late I’ve been dabbling in poetry. I love to draw…I’m a bit of a loner and I hope this comes out in my art as it’s an issue relevant to me and good art should say everything about its creator. Real art is truth.” He has a number of exhibitions coming up.
