About the artwork and sitter
This is a portrait of the artists friend and fellow Brisbane painter, Keith Burt. Being a portrait artist himself, Burt has an effortless ability to capture the essence of a subject which Jack Rodgers finds inspiring.
“Our shared love of music, beer and newspaper cartoonists has made him an interesting, collaborative and challenging portrait for me to paint. Keith is a four time finalist of The Archibald Prize and winner of the Brisbane Portrait Prize in 2020.
“While sitting for the portrait, Keith told me about moving to Brisbane in 2008. He has fond memories of his first views of the city at the end of a long drive from Melbourne. As the Brisbane skyline slid into view, the car stereo erupted into “You Ain’t Goin Nowhere” by The Byrds. A romantic introduction to this city’s arts community of which Keith and his family have firmly become a part.”
