About the artwork and sitter

In this colourful portrait, Martina Clarke has captured Greens Councillor Jonathan Sri in his trademark colourful clothing.

Clarke says the surroundings are deliberate: “Sitting at the popular sunset spot with West End sprawled across the landscape behind him, Mt Coot-Tha in the distance obscured by the emerging high rises.”

Both a writer and musician, Jonathan is big part of West End’s thriving artists community. Martina Clarke says on the work: “The tumultuous clouds, reminiscent of the severe rainstorms we experienced early this year, show a silver lining, symbolic of Jonathans realistic yet hopeful approach to Brisbane’s greener future.”
