Elizabeth by Adelaide Lukin

This is a portrait of my grandmother which I have built up a thickness paint to depict the texture of her ageing skin. I have used a variety of colour to show tonal depth and the weathering of a face that has seen 83 Queensland summers. I have chosen to paint my grandmother because I believe she represents the history of Brisbane. 

Elizabeth carries with her the culture, the knowledge, the tales, and the love of Brisbane past and has imparted those stories onto all of her children and grandchildren. She is kind and nurturing and even though I am one of her 17 grandchildren, I never feel overlooked.
