Nick Young

About the artist

Nick Young studied in the 1970s at Julian Ashtons in Sydney, learning the art of drawing as the foundation of painting. He put his artistic ambitions on hold while raising a family, and then, 25 years ago, he commenced a life of being a full time artist. In the first few years, he entered several art competitions in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Twenty years ago Red Hill Gallery in Brisbane became his primary art dealer. He is also represented by The Melas Gallery in Sydney. He mainly paints still life, in a contemporary realist form, although in the last decade, has spent time plein air painting. His work in portraiture has developed over time, and he says: “Trying to express not only a likeness, but a window into the subjects soul.”
