Boots and All...

Suzanne O'Connell

About the artist

Suzanne O’Connell is an established art consultant and dealer specialising in sourcing fine art from Aboriginal communities throughout Australia. A former cabaret performer, creativity has always been part of her life in some way. She has worked as an advocate for Indigenous arts nationally and internationally, and runs a gallery in Brisbane. Recently, she has begun developing her own artistic practice in photography.  O’Connell is inspired by film noir, cityscapes, sparse landscapes and portraiture with a theatrical touch.

About the sitter

Brian Tucker is an institution on the Brisbane art scene. A long time art collector and advocate, he has worked in the arts as an accountant and auditor since 1980. He has worked for many famous Brisbane artists over the last few decades, and is also known for supporting students and donating generously. Recently, he has become more interested in collecting indigenous art, travelling to and working with communities across the state. Known to be a snappy dresser, Suzanne says of him:  “Always on the move usually in a fabulous pair of boots, his work takes him to remote aboriginal communities throughout Australia: where the bitumen ends and the dirt begins, heels and all.”
