Self Portrait with Glasses

Ciaran Glasheen

About the work

Painted across two short sessions, Self Portrait with Glasses is exactly what it says it is. It’s introspective, but not heavy. There’s no hidden metaphor, just the desire to paint, simply for the joy of it. This self-portrait wasn’t planned. It wasn’t part of a grand concept or deep symbolic narrative. It came from one of those bursts of creative energy where the need to make something is immediate and undeniable.

In the pursuit of an artistic career, moments like this remind me of why I started.
Brisbane has played a big part in that journey so far. It’s where I’ve exhibited, connected, and grown. With family living here and opportunities that continue to inspire me, it’s a city I hope to one day call home.

This painting stands as a quiet acknowledgement of those moments in between; where art isn’t created for meaning, but for momentum. It’s about honouring instinct, and the spaces that help you follow it.
