'All Consuming' (Diptych) 'Control' (Panel One) and 'Obsession' (Panel Two)

About the work

All Consuming is a diptych that explores the pressure of beauty standards and the silent toll of eating disorders in today’s culture. The left panel, Control, is a portrait of my older sister Sofia. She represents the age group most affected by disordered eating, yet also stands as one of the strongest and most supportive people in my life. On the right, Obsession mirrors her form in food, inviting viewers to reflect on how control can become overwhelming, and how obsession can take shape in quiet, consuming ways.

At the centre of both images is a pomegranate, a fruit long associated with youth and beauty. Here, it becomes a symbol of tension: a single seed is held out, asking whether the pursuit of perfection might come at the cost of nourishment, health, and self-acceptance. This work is personal, but it also speaks to something much wider. It invites conversation around how we view our bodies and the quiet battles many face just to feel enough.
