Maturing by Yunha Song

My artwork called “Maturing” pays close attention to my younger self. It represents the long simplicity of childhood that leads a to a question – ‘when did life became so complicated?’ The old, tattered bear reflects as a younger me who is desperate to hold onto fading memories. The colours of my painting are energetic and colourful, overall very childlike. The pose by itself says a lot on its own, as it represents how I make my self look smaller as I’m trying not to take up too much space. Essentially, this painting is a story of how I struggle to grow out of my childhood and become another version of myself. Yet, in the end, I realise that even the past holds its own complexities. This piece questions where I go from here, while finding the blurred lines between childhood and adulthood.
