About the artwork
This portrait of the artist’s daughter is called Her Quiet, and it shows a contented, calm and restful Eloise in her quiet, contented place.
Her love of dance is immediately apparent. Her ballet shoes, her pulled back hair and her Royal Academy of Dance t-shirt all signal her interest in dancing.
Here we see her curled up on a couch reading, another one of her passions. The tonal use of blues and yellows creates a warmth and softness to the image.
“Eloise is an avid reader and a passionate dancer. When she is not dancing, she is reading. And when she is not reading, she is dancing.
“I painted Eloise as I often observe her. Completely engrossed in a book, often wearing her RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) t-shirt. Seated with her legs up, the deliberate composition allows for the eye to flow from her gaze to her book, across her legs and back to her face via the shadow. This painting is quiet, a reflection of the quiet that surrounds her when she is reading.”
