Shutup Im Drawing

Jamie Congdon

About the artist and artwork

Jamie Congdon lives and works as a taxi driver in Redcliffe. His practice focuses on the world around him including trips, both a visual artist and a taxi driver. He has just had a solo exhibition at Redcliffe Art Gallery.

This is the most recent piece in Jamie’s large portfolio of taxi paintings. It consists of 12 panels and is highly impasto. It is a depiction of what he likes to do best – draw whilst the sun is streaming into the car. As Jamie stares at the view he is already planning his next picture.

‘I’m painting a story. I’m revealing myself through my art…not in any showy or pretentious fashion just mainly interiors of my home and facets of my life.’

Although the painting is a self portrait, staring out at the view, Jamie feels like an intruder.

‘To me this is a concept or image i feel goes on ad infinitum. I have actually abandoned this picture…’
