About the artist and artwork
Paula Prentice is a self taught pencil portrait artist based in Brisbane, Australia.
Through her practice, Paula focuses mostly on self portraits, exploring the effects of light and shadow in creating mood and narrative. She takes and edits her own photos to find the exact look, feel, and story she wants to portray in each drawing.
This work is a self portrait that reveals the experience of an ‘ordinary 55 year old single woman struggling to survive on the Disability Pension in Brisbane today.’
This drawing holds the hope of being seen and heard on multiple levels – artistically, spiritually, and socially, to connect others with the experience.
