About the artwork and sitter
Meanjin-based Alt-Pop First Nations interdisciplinary artist, performing under the name, GLVES, Michelle weaves impactful stories of her life, harmoniously combining electronic elements, soothing vocal loops, and organic instruments to create ethereal and cinematic Blaktronica.
With a sense of beauty, ritual, and reverence, GLVES unites her music across all visual mediums to showcase her artistic vision, searching for an understanding of her history and heritage, culture, bloodlines, and family stories.
GLVES has received critical acclaim from national and international tastemakers following her first six releases in the last three years and collected awards and commendations for her musical and visual works.
Michelle’s portrait is about the connection between the world she lives in and her search for ancestry, heritage and the subconscious.
About the artist
Jason fell in love with photography at an early age, and began to pursue a career in the industry at 16.
He wanted to, ‘learn how to tell stories through pictures, think on my feet and always be open to the scene before my lens.’
His favourite style of photography is portraiture, as a medium to talk about the human condition.
