About the artist and artwork
Andrea is a figurative artist whose work includes sketches, photography, video, ephemeral art and sculpture.
She is interested in examining what constitutes meaningful, healthy and complex retrospective self-identity and self-continuity.
‘While my compositions are deliberately planned, the actual process of creation is highly intuitive and changeable. Images are worked, altered, merged, semi-erased and reworked many times according to subconscious direction that cannot be easily reduced to formulas, rules, time frames or conventions.’
Andrea’s artwork is attempt to deal with complex early childhood and inter-generational trauma.
The images she creates represents a search for meaningful self-identity within the chaos of modern life and a neurodivergent mind space.
This piece is ‘inevitably influenced by the history of gender politics and gender identification; by heroes and archetypes, connection to country and with some of the most exceptional Australians from the Pitjantjatjara, Yankuntjatjara and Yuggera tribes.’
