About the artwork and sitter
Maxim and Luca are Marco’s sons. Here, the are depicted as a single figure, yet the powerful contrasts between the two personalities are strikingly clear: light versus dark, warm versus cool, bright versus shaded, innocence versus cynicism.
“My aim was to capture a time when my older son was going through a dark phase in adolescence just as younger brother, was beginning to blossom.’
The piece is a surreal, yet somewhat twisted glimpse into the difference in the two brothers’ personalities and the possible influence of Max’s on Luca. Max’s silhouette against the shadowy, monochromatic background of the piece draws the viewer’s eye to his younger brother’s emerging fragility.
