About the artwork and sitter
The sitter is Holly’s work colleague, JR, an emergency staff specialist, who was a passionate doctor working in trauma and education.
JR was diagnosed with cancer during the pandemic, fighting bravely until January 2023.
‘This reference was from half way through his treatment. JR loved a story, never letting the full truth get in the way.’
JR originally worked as an aeronautial engineer, eventually changing to medicine as ‘sitting at a desk all day was not in the life plan!’
About the artist
Holly is an artist, emergency nurse and mother of 3 from the Sunshine Coast. After 5 years of working with ceramics as a self-taught artist, Holly started painting in 2020.
‘I’m still experimenting with my style but love colour and mark making.’
‘I have always been a keen people watcher and now can bring that passion to life in portrait paintings.’
