Teen Angst by Abby O’Brien

About the work

The feeling of being able to put paint to canvas is unmatched. Thinking of any particular idea then being able to portray this is a unique feeling. This particular self-portrait explores my personal experience with growing up and transitioning into young adulthood and the busy streets that follow. As a young female in Brisbane there is internal pressure in making sure I can do everything right, post-school and in the future. There is a feeling of dread in going into the unknowns of adulthood and I know I am not alone in this feeling. However, I am just a teenager hence the title ‘Teen Angst’. This piece was made to show my idea of these feelings and the stress on the subject’s face shows this. Nevertheless, everything will be fine.
