Uncertain Future by Huon Kane

Uncertain Future

Huon Kane

About the artwork and sitter

This sensitive portrait shows Lana Khouri, a social worker and climate activist, sitting on the bonnet of a car amidst the floodwaters, contemplating an uncertain future. Painting Lana Khouri in this way, Huon Kane ensures that this is more than a character portrait. It talks of a young woman, with face paint and a child’s pink unicorn almost hidden behind her, contemplating the future.

“She represents a generation of young people concerned about their future amidst the climate crisis,” Huon Kane says.

“Beauty and devastation form the backdrop to her greatest challenge; how to find strength, fulfilment and happiness in a world of rapidly accelerating climate change.”
