Through Lindy's Eyes

Lilian Reynolds

About the work

She has lived in the public eye – scrutinised, but never so intimately. This portrait draws you close to Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, inviting quiet contemplation of humanity over noisy headlines, 45 years after her baby daughter Azaria was taken by a dingo at Uluru.

The black and white palette speaks to the years of relentless media coverage, while each charcoal stroke became a reminder not of public perception, but of Lindy’s strength, laughter, and grace. Within her eye is a subtle, but meaningful reflection of a memory. The reference image echoes a personal photograph used in Lindy’s autobiography Through My Eyes, and the television adaptation filmed in Brisbane in 2004. Now based in South-East Queensland, Lindy became a family friend four years ago, not because of who she is to the world, but because of who she is in person.

This is not a portrait of the past. It is a tribute to the woman she is today – someone who continues to face the world with dignity, clarity, and quiet power.
