About the work
This self-portrait captures the quiet feeling of being lost in thought; a moment suspended between stillness and movement. Water has always been a place of peace for me. Its calm, weightless quality reminds me of how I feel when I draw. Everything else fades away. By placing myself underwater, I’ve visualised that sense of drifting, of becoming absorbed in my own imagination.
The portrait reflects not only my love for the beach but also how deeply personal and meditative the creative process is. As a 17-year-old student, I chose to draw myself because, right now, I’m still figuring out who I am. But I do know that art and the ocean are both spaces where I feel most at home. Drifting Dreams is a tribute to the quiet moments that shape us, even when no one else is watching.
