About the artwork
Brisbane born Miranda Otto is an internationally acclaimed Australian actress best known for her roles in films including The Lord of the Rings and War of the Worlds and TV series including Homeland and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
This is the second portrait Col Mac has painted of Otto with her cat, Prince – the first was a finalist in the Archibald Prize 2025.
“Most people are familiar with seeing Miranda in character on screen or stage. I was interested in painting a portrait of Miranda at home outside of how I was used to seeing her through the characters she portrays… Miranda is a very engaging, thoughtful person and artist. There was something that felt really natural that came through at this point of the sitting that I think comes through the painting. We have spoken about Brisbane a bit so it is nice for me that this work would end up displayed here.”
