About the artwork
Sev Faust, aka Lord Sev, is a dynamic performer, producer and community powerhouse at the heart of Brisbane’s drag and queer kink scenes.
This portrait of Lord Sev captures him in his element, performing on stage for the community he works to uplift. Layers of charcoal, ink and acrylic emulate the dynamic movement of his performance, with red used selectively as a visual anchor, much like how it draws the eye under stage lights. The composition reflects the energy and inclusivity of the spaces Lord Sev creates, highlighting his role not just as a performer, but as a mentor and advocate.
“I was drawn to Sev because of their activism work in the queer, drag, kink and disabled communities. I wanted to celebrate him. I wanted Sev’s portrait to reflect him and his community involvement. His portrait had to be lively, bright and he needed to be in command of attention, like the audience was watching him on stage.”
