About the artwork
Karyn Walsh is the CEO of Micah Projects, a Brisbane not-for-profit organisation committed to social justice and improving the lives of disadvantaged and marginalised people.
This portrait captures Walsh in her office, a space alive with purpose, complexity and compassion. The surrounding documents, handbooks, photographs and the image of her grandchild on her screensaver speak not only to a life of relentless advocacy, but to the deeply personal and human nature of her work. It is a scene of controlled chaos, shaped by urgency and care.
“I wanted a simple, honest portrait of her as she is, in her office… I felt it was the perfect space to reflect the work she has dedicated her life to, which can be glimpsed at through snippets of wording across documents, folders and books. I wanted the busyness of her office to represent the amount of work she has done in the community.”
