Vibrance of Life by Cayla Ravizzotti

‘Vibrance of life’ celebrates self-discovery and the transformative power of art. The sitter is my father; he is portrayed as he is, and the work epitomises his energy and zest for life. His story connects with a sense of place and identity.

Dad overcame many struggles and hardships growing up and it was through these adversities that he developed into this amazing person. He moved from Italy to Zimbabwe and now lives in Brisbane. This journey is expressed in bright, bold, and textured features. True colours are the concept and focus of this portrait, inviting viewers to recognise colours emerging through the darkness into a new light. The focal point is generated by the intensity in his eyes and stylised in a form that radiates movement and joy.

Portraits are the genre I enjoy painting; I am influenced by artists such as Imants Tillers and Abdul Abdullah I am developing my aesthetic by capturing the moment and the mood within my composition. I am interested in broken colour techniques and the impact that one brush stroke can make.
