About the work
My artwork is a celebration of identity through the lens of gender confirming surgeries. My friend, Cameron is a transgender male teenager who has undergone top surgery. I understand that this notion may be controversial, but the artwork aims to bring awareness and normalise people being able to feel confident in their own bodies. Cameron grew up in Brisbane, and as someone who felt like he didn’t fit with his body, got to transition with the help of the Brisbane gender clinic. The fact that we can offer these surgeries and bring awareness in Brisbane is something to be proud of. I want this artwork to stand as a reminder of the opportunities we have to make people happy by accepting them.
