Afternoon Sun by Maxim Chikanchi

Afternoon Sun

Maxim Chikanchi

About the artwork and sitter

Maxim Chikanchi painted this portrait as part of a series entitled Passing Time. The works from this series reflect everyday activities that bring us joy by looking at the simple experiences that bond us without the ongoing pressure of spending money and chasing the next thrill.

This one is called Afternoon Sun and shows musician Isobel De Leon sheltering her face from the bright Brisbane sunlight.

“This artwork tells a snippet of Izzy’s story while capturing a moment in time that reminds us to enjoy the simple experiences of our day and cherish what we have. In this case, Izzy enjoys basking in the afternoon sun despite her busy work schedule in the arts.

Although time will inevitably pass, this piece is about having a goal in being intentional with how we spend our time and cherish the moments within.”

Isobel De Leon is a bass guitarist in a number of Brisbane-based bands.
