About the artwork and sitter
Noel McKenna is a Brisbane born and raised artist who has been living in Sydney for the last 40 years. He retains connections to Brisbane.
Margaret and Noel married in 1985 . Noel has made a friend of Stumpy, a female magpie. She comes and sits with him when he is working in his studio. She also comes into the kitchen when he has breakfast to get a treat. Noel is a great animal lover – in fact he could prefer animals to humans.”
About the artist
Margaret McKenna is a self taught artist, and retired architect. She submitted another quite different portrait of Noel in 2019, which was hung as a finalist. She paints and draws for herself, as does her husband, the well known Brisbane born artist Noel McKenna, who now lives in Sydney. She says: “I love faces with all the crags, lines and flaws that make us human.”
