About the artwork
“These Are My Real Eyes Now” was borne from the confusion and disappointment surrounding the limits placed on the depiction of female nipples in the media. She says, “As a mother the shadow of my publicly permitted bodily features followed me like a ghost and provided an internal mantra during breastfeeding and beyond.” Self portraiture provides limitless scope for reimagining bodily portrayal and presents an abundant orchard full of fruit fit for whimsy and light hearted introspection, an arena which Leah Emery finds herself immersed in often.
