About the artwork
This painting shows Robert Brownhall surrounded by the delicate sketches he draws before embarking on larger paintings. Brownhall draws as a way of thinking through images, to record the scenes he observes. He experiments with point of view often working in his car or high rise buildings. These drawings are beautiful pieces of art in themselves.

“Visiting Rob in his studio to get reference for this portrait was delightful. I think we spent more time chatting than actually sitting for the portrait.”
Behind the scenes
Visiting Rob in his studio to get reference for this portrait was delightful. I think we spent more time chatting than actually sitting for the portrait.
I went a few times to get the right light but as usual when I plan things, like getting up before dawn so the light hits his studio wall perfectly, it decides to rain that day. We managed anyway.
