About the artist

Meg Jeffery is a young Brisbane artist with an interest in portraiture because of its impact and particularly, she says, “how it can make the subject feel important or appreciated”.  Although she enjoyed drawing as a child, it was at All Hallows School that Jeffery developed her love for portraiture through art classes. Jeffreys works in a realistic style, and says as an emerging artist, her painting style and personal aesthetic is always changing, and she is still experimenting with a view to finding her own distinctive style.

About the sitter

Jefferys has painted one of her closest friends, Lily. She says: “We have known each other since the start of high school, however I don’t remember the first time I met her; it’s like I’ve known her all my life. She’s possibly the craziest person I know, but that makes me even more thankful that I met her. Our friendship was strengthened through our art classes, and I have her to thank for some of my best high school memories. I painted this portrait of Lily so that she can see how important she is to me and how grateful I am to have her in my life. I think this portrait captures her trademark dimpled grin perfectly and gives an insight into the wonderful, lively person she is.”
