About the artwork
Philanthropist Carolyn Vincent is the founder of the Ubuntu Foundation, a Brisbane-based organisation grounded in the African philosophy of Ubuntu – I am because you are. Shaped by a childhood in India and inspired by her mother, Vincent is dedicated to supporting initiatives where people come together across Brisbane’s cultural and social landscape. She is also founder of Kindness Out Loud, an organisation dedicated to making Australia the kindest nation by 2032.
As Brisbane painter Anne-Marie Zanetti came to know Vincent, she was struck by her warmth, sincerity and quiet strength, a presence shaped by life across cultures and personal challenges. Vincent chose to be painted in her traditional Indian dress, against an olive background that evokes the lush garden of her Moorooka home. “In painting her, I wanted to capture not only her likeness, but the humanity and generosity that help define her, and the sense of care she brings to others.”
