About the artwork
Natasha Rose started writing poems and songs when she was ten and a family tradition of singing together every night fostered her ambition to write and perform. Originally from Burpengary, the 20-year-old performed on Australian Idol earlier this year, and is a regular at Eat St, and other venues around the city.
In this portrait she is fully absorbed in the act of writing. The composition is angled so that the paper and the centrally placed pen become the focus of the painting, forcing attention to her emerging creativity.
The artwork captures a reflective moment off stage, spotlighting the energy she spends building her career. “Natasha will do anything to make her dreams a reality. If there are no open doors that lead to opportunities, she will build the door herself.”
The red nail polish and Natasha’s fingers pressed against the front of the picture plane draw our attention to the pen poised for writing. She stares intensely at her work, eyes downcast and fully absorbed in her task.
The bright palette and bold blocks of colour add a sense of youthful optimism. The door opening behind Natasha hints at the possibilities that hard work and commitment can bring.
