This is a portrait of Dylan’s youngest brother, Stewart, a freelance videographer/video editor based in Brisbane. His work involves filming for clients & creating YouTube content, which analyses games for various gaming platforms.

About the artist
Dylan Jones’ paintings vary in subject matter, but regardless of what he chooses to depict there always remains an interest in colour, composition and the simplification of form. The images Dylan creates have a relationship to the history of painting but more so to everyday life. Painting ‘en plein air’ and with models in the studio, Dylan’s work is inspired by a variety of people and places, all rendered in thick, gestural and handmade oil paint

Behind the scenes
I come from a family of 6 boys. There are some physical attributes that we all share but I feel I look most similar to my younger brother, Stewart. For an artist this makes for an interesting subject as there is a sense of familiarity and a search for contrast. I’ve painted and drawn Stewart on several occasions over the years but I believe this work best captures his nature and essence. I completed this painting in one sitting (Alla Prima). The image seemed to fall off the brush, which is a rare occurrence in the studio.
