James C Sourris AM commissioned a home in Hamilton from prominent Brisbane architect Robin Gibson. Details of the architecture feature in this painting. The movie reel attribute symbolises James’ and his family’s long-standing connection with the motion picture industry and his contribution to the visual arts and cultural life of Queensland.

About the sitter

James C Sourris AM formed Australian Multiplex Cinemas in 1994 and has played a central role in Brisbane’s Motion Picture Industry. James is an outstanding patron of the Queensland Art Gallery and State Library of Queensland. A significant exhibition of donated work from his collection was exhibited at GoMA in 2011.

About the artist

Luke Roberts is an Archibald Prize finalist (2012), a Moran Prize finalist (2016) and a finalist in the inaugural Brisbane Portrait Prize (2019). He holds a Masters of Fine Arts from the Queensland University of Technology and was the Australian Fellow at MoMA PS1, New York. His work is included in major national and international collections.
