Quidong depicts Dr. Rosevear as a “modern-day Renaissance man” in an oriental context at home, using the idea of  “East meets West” as a symbol of openness to multi-cultural inclusivity. The chiaroscuro effect highlights an atmosphere of inspiration, contemplation, freedom, and serenity. 

About the sitter

Dr. Wendell Rosevear O.A.M. (whose nickname is “Nelson Wendella”)  has worked as a doctor for 40 years in alcohol and drug recovery, HIV/AIDS, rape and sexual abuse recovery, General Practice, LGBTI health, counselling and prisoner health. Over his career, he has received numerous awards for his work. Quidont describes Dr Rosevear as a “catalyst for understanding and respect.”  

About the artist

Anthony Quidong is a Philippines born emerging artist who has been based in Brisbane since 2008. He studied Bachelor in Fine Arts in the Philippines. He has been a finalist in Lethbridge 20000 2020 and the Clayton Utz Art Award.
