About the artwork
Jane Booty says, “I feel connection to the natural world and am intrigued by how we as humans connect to it. Animistic mythologies are a direct expression of this, particularly totem animals or spirits which serve as an emblem of a group of people.” Booty asks her sitters to choose their own totem. Depicted here, Andy admires the red fox for its sense of mischief, charm and intelligence, and also its cunning and adaptability to new environments.
About the sitter
My partner Andy has established his home away from home here in Brisbane. Originally from the UK, he has explored many corners of the globe.
About the artist
Jane Booty came back to painting when her son started school, after too many years away. Of her work, Jane says “painting is a meditation and a way to escape the pressures of daily existence. The sensory experience of painting, and the quiet focus required, brings me to my happy place.”
