AI, Art and the Brisbane Portrait Prize

Panel and Q&A Session

Since its inception, the Brisbane Portrait Prize has set out to be a truly contemporary art prize.

As our world continues to evolve, so too does the prize, and as such we amended our terms in 2024 to allow entries which have been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI). This could be using AI to assist with image composition or in any other part of the artistic process including image generation.

We have and always and will continue to support individual creative processes and this will be highly valued, even in works using AI.

However, we also understand that a change like this can raise many questions, a number of which have played out in the media in recent days.

To directly address these questions and clarify some misconceptions around our decision to allow the use of AI, we will be holding an open panel discussion + Q&A session on Wed February 21st.

During the evening we will hear from a panel including BPP board members as well as external experts on the topic of digital and AI. We will then dedicate a good portion of the event to addressing questions from the floor as well as questions submitted in advance.
