Inspired by the historic 1863 Paris exhibition that challenged artistic conventions, the Brisbane Portrait Prize Salon des Refusés celebrates exceptional works that extend the conversation around contemporary portraiture.
Presented at Brisbane Powerhouse on the iconic Turbine Platform, the exhibition offers audiences the opportunity to discover a curated selection of portraits drawn from this year’s Brisbane Portrait Prize entries. The iconic setting provides a striking backdrop for works that are bold, thought-provoking and deserving of their own moment in the spotlight.
The Salon des Refusés is not simply an extension of the Finalists’ Exhibition. It is a distinct exhibition that embraces different voices, perspectives and approaches to portraiture, showcasing the depth and diversity of artistic practice across the Brisbane Portrait Prize.
Artists entering the Brisbane Portrait Prize can nominate for their work to also be considered for inclusion in the Salon des Refusés. Selection is by invitation following the Brisbane Portrait Prize judging process.
